Paper Trail: Receipt Scanner
Scan the receipt; it is sorted by type, and you file it in your own folders.

A receipt scanner and organizer should work without an account: read the text off the paper, translate it if it is in another language, and put it where you will find it again. This one does all of it on the phone.
Text recognition makes mistakes, especially on faded receipts and handwriting; check any figure you will rely on. Scanning happens on the device — the app does not upload your documents.
What it does
- Photograph a paper, pick an image or import a PDF; the text is read on the phone
- Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Devanagari papers are read too, with models that ship inside the app
- When the paper's edges are found with confidence, the photo is shown straightened; the original is kept and one tap brings it back
- Up to 20 pages in one paper, read and searched together; the PDF, the ZIP and printing carry every page
- Clean up a photo — shadow removed, grey or black and white, your own brightness and contrast — or paint over a stain with the eraser; the original is kept and is what gets read
- Edit, copy or share the text that was read; a business card opens your Contacts app with its name, phones and email filled in
- Translate a paper written in another language on the phone, line by line as printed: download a language once (about 30 MB, over Wi-Fi), then it works offline
- The type is guessed from the words on the page — receipt, invoice, official document
- It is grouped by type automatically, papers it is unsure about are listed for you to check, and you can move any of them into your own folders
- Your own tags (a client, a trip, a project) on top of folders; star the papers you need often, and the ones you opened last are one tap away
- Filter the list by type, date range, tag or star, together with the search
- A spending category for each receipt — groceries, fuel, lodging and more — suggested from its text and marked until you confirm it
- When you correct an issuer, a category or a type, the next paper from the same issuer gets your choice, marked as filled from your history
- Tax, tip and payment method are read from the lines the receipt labels, and its line items are listed and checked against its total; no tax is ever calculated
- Expense reports for a month, a quarter, a year or your own dates as PDF, CSV or Excel, totalled by type and by category
- Spending charts in your report currency: categories, the last 12 months, the biggest category's share and the change from the previous period
- Share the report, the CSV or the Excel file directly, or a ZIP with the receipt photos; a single paper goes out as a JPEG or a PDF, or is printed through your phone's print screen
- Images and PDFs shared from another app arrive as papers; a full backup puts every photo in one ZIP for a new phone (photos are not encrypted inside that file)
- Other currencies are converted only at the rate you type from your card statement; papers without a rate are listed apart, never guessed
- Import the CSV statement from your online banking: it is read on the phone, the app asks when the date order or the sign of the amounts is unclear, skips totals and lines already imported, and never connects to your bank
- Quick entry by voice or text — say or type "12.50 coffee"; your phone's own speech screen does the listening and this app asks for no microphone permission
- Mark money in as well as money out: the report shows both and the profit or loss in your report currency
- Separate businesses, each with its own papers, report and currency; folders and tags are shared
- Photos are stored encrypted on the phone; an optional app lock uses your phone's own screen lock
- On a tablet, the list and the paper sit side by side; drag a paper onto a folder, or drop in an image or a PDF from another app
- Searchable text, so a receipt can be found by what it says
- No account and no upload: the documents stay on this phone
How you set it up
You add your first record — for example “Receipt · 14 March · filed” — and the app does the arithmetic: running totals, the period summary and the report you can hand over. Nothing is fetched from the internet, so it works with no signal.
Who it is for
Anyone keeping receipts for tax, warranty or expenses.

What it does not do
- It gives no professional advice and makes no decision for you — it shows you your own numbers.
- It asks for no account. No sign-up, no password.
- The developer collects no personal data and adds no analytics or crash reporting. In the free version the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects IP address, app interactions, diagnostics and device IDs (see Data safety).
- The free tier shows Google AdMob ads: a bottom banner, rewarded ads you start yourself and an “Ad”-labelled card inside the list; no full-screen ads between pages or on launch. Paid members see no ads and no ad request is made.
Version history
0.14.0 (2026-10-28)
- Fix: on Turkish receipts, the street abbreviation CAD. in an address is no longer read as Canadian dollars; the currency now comes from the mark next to the amount. Where the scanner sees the Turkish dotted capital I as an accented I, fuel and receipt words are now recognised, so the fuel category and the receipt type are suggested correctly.
0.13.0 (2026-10-26)
- New: import your bank's CSV statement on the phone; quick entry by voice or text (no microphone permission); money in and profit or loss; separate businesses; up to 20 pages in one paper.
- Also new: clean up a photo, grey or black and white, erase a stain (the original is kept); edit, copy or share the text; add a business card to Contacts; print; share in from other apps; a full backup with photos (ZIP).
0.12.0 (2026-10-21)
- New: tax, tip, payment method and line items are read from receipts; your own tags, stars and filters by type and date; reports for a quarter, a year or your own dates, with spending charts.

0.11.0 (2026-10-15)
- Your membership is now checked with Google Play every time you open the app, so ad-free use starts or ends without opening Settings.
- The paper limit and translation count on the Scan tab now follow your membership right away.
- Membership plans that are not on sale in Google Play are no longer offered.
0.10.0 (2026-10-09)
- A component used by the ad library (protobuf-javalite) was updated to 3.25.9, which includes a security fix.
0.9.0 (2026-10-02)
- Translation now keeps the paper's lines: each line of a receipt is translated on its own, so items and amounts no longer run together.
- In the reminder settings, hour and minute sit side by side and the number of days has its own row, so a label no longer breaks onto two lines when you clear a field.
0.8.0 (2026-10-01)
- Reading a photo and on-device translation work again (0.7.0 failed at both); the total and date on two-column receipts are now read correctly.
- New spending category for each receipt (groceries, fuel, lodging…), suggested from its text; the report adds it up by category.
- Other currencies: type the rate from your card statement for one common total; papers without a rate stay apart.
- Save the month as an Excel file: amounts stay numbers, dates stay dates.
0.7.0 (2026-09-30)
- Results of your actions (saved, added, limit reached) now always appear above the ad strip.
- Saving a document, your profile or a reminder now confirms, and a cancelled picker says so.
- A photo taken while the app was restarted in the background is no longer lost.
- A late-loading ad card no longer shifts the screen (no accidental taps).
- No new ad is requested while one is still loading, so less data is used.
- Updated the ads library.
0.6.0 (2026-09-24)
- Changing the language no longer sends you back to the first tab.
- With a paid membership, the ad-consent check and ads SDK no longer start at launch.
0.5.0 (2026-09-23)
- Fixed a crash that could happen when the ad component ran short of memory: no new full-screen ad is loaded while memory is low.
- In the translate card, the source-language field now shows its own label instead of repeating the target-language label.
0.4.0 (2026-09-19)
- Rebuilt on the latest Android version and libraries, including a newer version of a component Google Play flagged as outdated.
- Stability improvements.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | So the ad library can see the connection state. Your entries do not use the network. |
INTERNET | For ads ONLY. Your entries never leave the device and the app has no server of its own. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS | To remind you about the dates and reminders you set yourself. |
READ_BASIC_PHONE_STATE | So the ads library can tell Wi-Fi from mobile data. It grants no access to your phone number, IMEI or call log; the app does not declare it, the ads library adds it. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | So your reminders keep working after the phone restarts. |
VIBRATE | To vibrate when a notification arrives. |
WAKE_LOCK | So the phone does not fall asleep in the middle of a check. The app does not ask for this itself; the background work library (Android Jetpack WorkManager) adds it. |
BILLING | So you can buy a paid membership through Google Play. The app does not declare this permission itself; the Google Play Billing library adds it. Your payment details (card, address, invoice) never reach the app and are never seen or stored by it — Google Play takes the payment. All the app learns is whether your membership is active. |
AD_ID | Ads in the free tier are served by Google AdMob, which may read the device advertising ID (AAID). The app does not declare this permission itself; the ads library adds it. Paid members make no ad request at all. You can reset or delete the ID in Settings › Google › Ads. |
