Mileage & Tax Log: Deduction
Every business mile logged, and a mileage report you can export.

At tax time the question is always the same: how many miles were business? A record kept on the day is easier to rely on than a year reconstructed from memory. A mileage tracker earns its keep by writing the trip down while it is still fresh; this app logs it when it happens. What counts as an acceptable record is your tax authority's rule, not this app's. It does not represent the IRS or any government agency.
This app is a RECORD, not tax advice. Mileage rates, brackets and the start of a tax year are set by your tax authority and change; no rate is used until you save it. Check the current rate with your tax authority or your accountant before you file.
What it does
- Log a trip in one line: start, end and the distance from your odometer; the mileage calculator uses the rate you saved
- US: fills in the IRS mileage rate, incl. the 1 July 2026 change, for you to check
- Tiered rates (one rate up to a yearly distance, another above)
- Mark it business, personal, medical, charity or moving, or leave it unmarked; medical, charity and moving trips use only the rate you save for them and stay out of the business deduction
- Automatic mileage tracking can record the start, the end and the distance for you
- Or record a single trip yourself: tap Record one trip when you set off and Stop when you arrive
- A working-hours rule marks trips that fall entirely inside your hours as business, with a badge; a trip only partly inside stays unmarked for you to decide
- Edit a trip later (time, distance, purpose, notes, client or job, load), split one drive into two, or change many trips at once; a measured distance you correct stays on the report next to yours
- Several vehicles: every trip belongs to one, and the report can be made per vehicle or per client or job
- Odometer readings: how far the vehicle went by its odometer, how much of that is in your log, and the business share
- Frequent trips: save a regular drive once and fill the form with one tap; no address is ever stored
- Your own categories (site visit, supplies run, hospital...), each tied to one trip type; the report can show totals by category or cover one category
- Search all your trips by what you typed and filter by type, category, vehicle, client, source and dates
- A quick mileage calculator: a distance, or two odometer readings, times a rate, without saving a trip
- An optional tax set-aside estimate: type your own rate and the period's earnings; the period's mileage deduction comes off first
- Month-by-month and year-by-year summaries with bar charts
- Reminders you set: to create and send your report (monthly, quarterly or yearly, from your own tax year) and to log a day's trips at a time you pick
- Import your history from another mileage app: a CSV export or a GPX track; addresses are not imported and GPX points only measure the length
- Help and support inside the app: quick answers that work offline
- Every trip carries its date, so the year adds up by itself
- Export the period as a PDF, a CSV or an Excel (.xlsx) file, or send any of them straight to your accountant from the app; the report shows your business-use percentage
- No account, no cloud, no sync: nothing leaves the phone unless you send a report yourself
How you set it up
You add your first record — for example “Client visit · 42.6 mi · 14 March” — and the app does the arithmetic: running totals, the period summary and the report you can hand over. Nothing is fetched from the internet, so it works with no signal.
Who it is for
Freelancers, field staff and small business owners who claim mileage.

What it does not do
- It gives no professional advice and makes no decision for you — it shows you your own numbers.
- It asks for no account. No sign-up, no password.
- The developer collects no personal data and adds no analytics or crash reporting. In the free version the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects IP address, app interactions, diagnostics and device IDs (see Data safety).
- The free tier shows Google AdMob ads: a bottom banner, rewarded ads you start yourself and an “Ad”-labelled card inside the list; no full-screen ads between pages or on launch. Paid members see no ads and no ad request is made.
Version history
0.8.0 (2026-10-21)
- Record a single trip yourself with Record one trip and Stop; automatic detection now also counts slow city driving.
- Edit a trip later (time, distance, purpose, notes, client or job, load), split it in two, or change many trips at once.
- Several vehicles with a report per vehicle, odometer readings and a business-use percentage.
- A working-hours rule and frequent-trip templates. Send the PDF or CSV straight from the app.
0.7.0 (2026-10-15)
- Your membership is now checked with Google Play every time you open the app, so ad-free use starts or ends without opening Settings.
- Membership plans that are not on sale in Google Play are no longer offered.
0.6.0 (2026-10-09)
- Report: the "Trip by trip" table no longer splits words on narrow screens or with large text; when it does not fit, each trip is shown on two lines.
- Tap a locked feature's note for an optional rewarded ad that unlocks it; skip it and the lock stays.
0.5.0 (2026-09-27)
- US: one tap fills in the IRS mileage rate (1 July 2026 change included).
- Mid-year rate changes: each trip uses the rate of its day.
- Action results always show above the ad strip.
- Saving tracking settings shows a confirmation.
- A late-loading ad card no longer shifts the screen.
- Updated the ads library.
- Changing language keeps you on the same tab.
- Paid members: the ads SDK no longer starts at launch.
- No full-screen ad when memory is low (crash fix).
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION | Only to stamp an approximate place on a record you create, and only while you are creating it. It is never read in the background and never sent anywhere. |
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION | To record where an entry was taken. Location is read ONLY while you are recording, stays on the device and is never sent anywhere; if you decline, the app keeps working without location. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | So the ad library can see the connection state. Your entries do not use the network. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE | So Android does not stop the work while a recording is running. The service is VISIBLE in the notification shade; it never runs hidden. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION | The service type required to read location while a recording runs. It starts only when you start a recording and stops when you finish. |
INTERNET | For ads ONLY. Your entries never leave the device and the app has no server of its own. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS | To remind you about the dates and reminders you set yourself. |
READ_BASIC_PHONE_STATE | So the ads library can tell Wi-Fi from mobile data. It grants no access to your phone number, IMEI or call log; the app does not declare it, the ads library adds it. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | So your reminders keep working after the phone restarts. |
VIBRATE | To vibrate when a notification arrives. |
WAKE_LOCK | So the phone does not fall asleep in the middle of a check. The app does not ask for this itself; the background work library (Android Jetpack WorkManager) adds it. |
BILLING | So you can buy a paid membership through Google Play. The app does not declare this permission itself; the Google Play Billing library adds it. Your payment details (card, address, invoice) never reach the app and are never seen or stored by it — Google Play takes the payment. All the app learns is whether your membership is active. |
AD_ID | Ads in the free tier are served by Google AdMob, which may read the device advertising ID (AAID). The app does not declare this permission itself; the ads library adds it. Paid members make no ad request at all. You can reset or delete the ID in Settings › Google › Ads. |
